Water scarcity is one of the biggest challenges faced by farmers, making reliable irrigation essential for sustainable agriculture. Kevat Foundation supports the creation of farm ponds (Khet Talabdi) that capture and store rainwater for year-round irrigation.

These ponds are lined with high-quality impermeable liners to prevent water from seeping into the ground, ensuring maximum water retention even during dry seasons. By harvesting rainwater locally, farmers become less dependent on unpredictable rainfall and groundwater, enabling them to cultivate multiple crops, improve yields, reduce crop losses, and build resilience against climate change.

Check dams are simple yet highly effective water conservation structures that help capture and store rainwater flowing through seasonal streams and natural drains. Kevat Foundation supports the construction and rejuvenation of check dams to slow the flow of water, allowing it to accumulate and gradually recharge surrounding groundwater.

The stored water behind these dams provides a dependable source for irrigation, while increased groundwater levels improve the availability of water in nearby wells and borewells. DESILTING

Over time, lakes and ponds gradually lose their water-holding capacity due to the accumulation of silt, sediments, and organic matter. Kevat Foundation supports the desilting and rejuvenation of dried-up lakes by deploying excavators to remove these accumulated sediments, restoring the original depth and significantly increasing the lake's ability to store rainwater.

The nutrient-rich silt extracted from the lake bed is provided to nearby farmers, where it serves as a natural soil conditioner, improving soil fertility, moisture retention, and crop productivity. Kevat Foundation addresses this challenge by deploying specialized dredging equipment to remove accumulated sediments from water-filled water bodies without draining them. This process restores the original depth of the lake, significantly increasing its water-holding capacity and ensuring a larger reserve of water for irrigation, livestock, and groundwater recharge.
